Boonton is an extremely quaint township located in Morris County, NJ.

As of the 2010 census, just 4,2623 residents lived in Boonton.

The area was first discovered around 1710 when William Saget Penn happened upon the land.

Perhaps one of the community’s earliest claims to fame was its quick development of roads. In fact, McCaffrey Lane is considered the oldest recorded thoroughfare in the area. It was built by Samuel Ogden in 1767.

The NJ township was officially created in 1867 by the New Jersey Legislature, which used portions of Pequannock Township to create the community.

Later, a part of Boonton broke off to form the borough of Mountain Lakes in March 1924.

Education in Boonton, NJ

The 8.6-square-mile community of Boonton is served by the Boonton Township School District.

This high-quality public school district serves students from kindergarten through eighth grade, and includes the excellent Rockaway Valley School.

For their secondary school years, Boonton residents attend Mountain Lakes High School in Mountain Lakes.

Like many Morris County communities, Boonton is located near several major thoroghfares, including I-287 and I-80
