Boonton Homes for Sale

Not to be confused with Boonton Township, Boonton is a town that is also located in Morris County, NJ.

The area was originally called Boone-Towne in honor of Colonial Governor Thomas Boone.

During the 1800s, Boonton developed as a result of the Morris Canal and the development of the New Jersey Iron Company.

By 1867, this New Jersey community was officially chartered as Boonton. It was formed using portions of Hanover Township and Pequannock Township.

In 1908, Boonton gained fame because the waters from the nearby Jersey City Reservoir became the first municipal water supply in the country to be chlorinated.

During the 2010 Census, Boonton had a population of about 8,347.
