Chatham Borough Homes for Sale

Located in Morris County, New Jersey, Chatham is a small borough of about 8,962 residents as of the 2010 Census.

The community was first settled by Europeans in 1710. At the time, the site was already known for being an important crossing on the Passaic River.

It was also situated on the path of a popular Native American trail.

During the 1770s, the newly-renamed community of Chatham became closely tied to the American Revolutionary War.

In 1897, the community of Chatham borough officially broke off from Chatham Township through an Act of the New Jersey Legislature.

Today, this 2.5-square mile community boasts a central business district, a railroad station and plenty of pedestrian-friendly amenities.

In fact, in July 2005, CNN/Money and Money Magazine ranked Chatham Borough as the ninth best place to live in the United States.

And in 2008, New Jersey Monthly magazine ranked the community as the 25th best place to live in New Jersey.

Education in Chatham Borough, New Jersey

Residents living in Chatham Borough are served by the School District of the Chathams, which also serves Chatham Township.

The district was formed during the 1986 elections and today includes several award-wining public schools.

There are also a number of private schools in the area, including Saint Patrick School, which serves students in pre-kindergarten through eighth grade.

Recreational Amenities in Chatham Burough

One popular destination within Chatham Burough is the Library of the Chathams, which was originally founded in 1908 under the name Chatham Library.

The library expanded over time and had to relocate eventually to the site of the old Fairview Hotel in 1924.

In 1974, voters passed a referendum in support of combining the library services of Chatham Borough and Chatham Township – thus creating the Library of the Chathams.

Today, this community library is a popular destination for residents of all ages.

Those who live in Chatham Burough also enjoy convenient access to several New Jersey-wide and regional public transportation systems, such as:

There are also several major NJ thoroughfares nearby.
