Proximity to NYC

Although Madison is away from the hustle and bustle of a big city, it offers a convenient commute into New York City by way of the Midtown Direct Train Line or about a 45 minute drive by car. With such an easy commute to Manhattan, most residents are white collar professionals working in sales, management, executive positions or office and administrative jobs, which has lead Madison to boast a high rate of owner-occupied single family homes.

Madison has a historic downtown with tree-lined streets that offer a variety of wonderful shops, restaurants and cafes. For those who need a mall close by, Short Hills Mall is about 10 minutes away. Neighborhoods

  • Crestview / Glenfield: This area is primarily single family homes with a few apartment buildings. This is a quiet walkable neighborhood that has been rated among the 15% most wealthy communities in America. The median home price for this area is just over $1 million.
  • Shady Lawn Manor / Madison Heights: This is another walkable neighborhood with a mixture of medium sized single family homes (priced around $800k on average) and some apartment buildings. Young children in the neighborhood can attend the Tory J Sabatini elementary school, which serves kids in grades Pre-K through 6 grade.
  • Main St / Greenwood Ave: Homes in this neighborhood average around the mid $600k price range and are mostly medium (3 to 4 bedrooms) in size. Main Street has beautiful tree-lined streets with shops and cafes all within walking distance. Central Avenue and Kings Road elementary schools are located in the neighborhood as well as Madison Jr. High, which serves children in grades 7 and 8.
  • Borough Center: Average homes in this neighborhood are priced in the low $600k range with smaller single family homes (1 to 2 bedrooms) to choose from. Borough Center is the location of Madison’s only high school, Madison High.

Madison has all the charm of a college town and is home to some of the best schools in the state of New Jersey. Drew University, Madison-Florham Park Campus of Fairleigh Dickinson University and the College of St. Elizabeth are all nearby, as well as Madison High School, Madison Junior High and several elementary schools.
