Jersey City boasts one of the most diverse populations in the United States giving it the reputation of being a Tapestry of Nations. With historical Ellis Island, it only stands to reason that substantial communities of Jewish, Italian, Cuban, Filipino, Polish, Indian, Irish, Puerto Rican, Dominican, African, Arab, and Asian have been well established. Every community comes together for Jersey City's Annual Block Parties. Hosted by the mayor and the Cultural Division of the Department of Health and Human Services, the block parties are held in each of Jersey City's six wards featuring music, food, drinks, games and workshops for kids. Schools
With plenty of academic choices located within the city, Mc Nair Academic High School has been dubbed the top public high school in New Jersey and 15th in the nation. Jersey City is also home to
New Jersey City University,
St. Peter's College, community college and branches of
Phoenix University,
Rutgers (the State University of New Jersey).
